Revital Software

Video games for revitalizing the Indigenous languages of Canada.

Free Indigenous Language Game Library

Our mission is to build a video game library filled with Indigenous language learning games. These games will be completely free for Indigenous communities, and playable both online & and offline. We intend to populate this library with our in-house projects and a selection of commissioned projects, subject to client permission of course! The first batch of games we will make for this library will focus on the Mohawk language, and will be modern retellings of Haudenosaunee legends: The Flying Head, The Little People, The Medicine Keepers, and The Seven Dancers. We are choosing to present these legends in a modern context to illustrate that their teachings are not only relevant, but much needed in today’s society. The images in the slideshow below are mockups of what we will create over the next year and a half.Production on this first batch of games will begin in June 2024. Check our social media for pics and updates!

This project is generously funded by the Interactive and Immersive Program offered by the Indigenous Screen Office.

About Us

We are a small company that works with Indigenous communities to create interactive language revitalization software. This work is essential because there are over 70 vulnerable and endangered Indigenous languages in the country today. These languages are important because they are a cornerstone of Indigenous sovereignty, and they are embedded with the accumulated knowledge & worldviews of our ancestors. The knowledge contained within our traditional languages is paramount to decolonizing our lands, communities, and our minds.

We recognise that every nation and community has their own unique set of needs when it comes to language revitalization. To address this our software can be designed collaboratively from the ground up. Our goal is to provide language revitalization software that can be used by either schools or individuals at home.If you have a project in mind, please contact us to discuss where to begin.

The Team

We are a majority Indigenous owned business operating out of Montreal, Quebec.

Kahentawaks Tiewishaw is a multidisciplinary artist with a particular focus on video games. She grew up in Kanehsatake where she was immersed in learning the Mohawk language, culture, and traditions. These experiences inform much of her artistic practice today, which includes 3D modeling,
illustration, game making, and sculpture. In 2020 she founded Revital Software, a company specializing in Indigenous language learning video games which allows her to blend her passion for technology and language revitalization.

Wennekerakon is a Mohawk from Kanehsatake with a background in early childhood education. After graduating from Concordia University with a Bachelor's degree in Child Studies, she worked for a private daycare in Montreal where she discovered her passion for creating learning activities for children through arts and crafts. Today she is furthering that mission as a digital artist and designer with the goal of creating content for children to reconnect with their language in a fun and interactive way.

Frederyk KowalczykFred is a software developer with a myriad of technology stacks under his sleeve. He has developed apps and software in a variety of industries that include: festivals, fitness, utilities, education and his favourite: games. Fred is a believer in the presence of Indigenous peoples in the digital future and wants to build systems that work for them, not against them.
